Webflow vs Shopify for ecommerce: which one to pick in 2026

Pick Shopify if you sell physical products at any real volume, sell in more than one currency, or need a checkout that converts without you touching it. Pick Webflow Ecommerce if the site is the product, the catalogue is small, you sell in one country and one currency, and the design has to do things a Shopify theme fights you on. Pick both, Webflow for the pages and Shopify for the cart, if you have the budget for two platforms and a developer who has wired them together before. The rest of this post is the detail, with the prices and limits from each company's own pages in October 2026.

In short
  • Shopify for physical goods at volume, more than one currency, or a checkout you never want to touch
  • Webflow Ecommerce for a small, design-led catalogue sold in one country and one currency
  • Headline prices are close ($29 to $299 a month billed yearly on both). Transaction and card fees are where they part
  • Webflow calculates tax for four regions and sells in one currency. If you sell abroad, that decides it

What each one is

Shopify is a commerce platform that also renders web pages. The catalogue, checkout, payments, taxes, shipping, discounts and apps are the core, and the storefront theme sits on top. Webflow is a visual website builder with an ecommerce module that left beta in 2019. The design canvas and CMS are the core. Products, cart and checkout are a layer on top of that, and the payment and tax logic is thinner than Shopify's.

That difference explains almost every row in the comparison. Shopify is better at selling things. Webflow is better at making pages. The question is which of those your business is short of.

Prices and fees, October 2026

Both sell three tiers plus an enterprise plan. The headline prices are close. The fees underneath are not.

Shopify's US pricing page lists Basic at $39 a month, or $29 billed yearly, Grow at $105 or $79, Advanced at $399 or $299, and Plus from $2,300 a month. Online card rates through Shopify Payments run from 2.9% plus 30 cents on Basic down to 2.25% plus 30 cents on Plus. Use a third-party payment provider instead and Shopify adds a fee of 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus.

Webflow's pricing page lists Ecommerce Standard at $29 a month billed yearly with a 2% transaction fee and 500 items, Plus at $74 with 0% and 5,000 items, and Advanced at $212 with 0% and 15,000 items. The transaction fee is charged on top of Stripe or PayPal's own processing, and Webflow's help centre notes that Stripe does not support these application fees in Brazil, India or Malaysia, so stores there need Plus or Advanced.

Three things to notice. Webflow's entry tier costs the same as Shopify Basic but takes 2% of every order, where Shopify Basic takes nothing extra if you use Shopify Payments. Webflow's 0% tiers start at $74, which is cheaper than Shopify Grow at $79 with similar staff seats. And Shopify's card rates fall as you move up the plans, which matters more than the subscription once you pass about $10,000 a month in sales.

Catalogue size and content

Webflow caps ecommerce items by plan: 500, 5,000 and 15,000. Since a November 2022 update those are separate from CMS items, so a Plus store also gets 10,000 CMS items for blog posts and guides. Shopify does not publish a product cap on its standard plans. Large catalogues are a question of how fast your theme and apps stay, not a plan limit.

Where Webflow wins is everything that isn't a product. Editorial pages, lookbooks, campaign landing pages, a magazine section, a founder story with scroll animation: these are a few hours in Webflow and a theme-customisation project on Shopify. If half your traffic lands on content rather than product pages, that matters.

Checkout, payments and conversion

Shopify's checkout is the reason most brands pick it. It is hosted, fixed on standard plans, and it carries Shop Pay, which stores a customer's email, payment method and addresses so repeat buyers skip the form. Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal show on the product page and cart. Our Shopify conversion rate guide covers the levers, but the short version is that the checkout is already tuned and you cannot break it.

Webflow's checkout is a page you design. That is a feature if you want it on-brand and a risk if nobody on the team has shipped a checkout before. Payments go through Stripe or PayPal, with Apple Pay and Google Pay available through Stripe. There is no equivalent of Shop Pay's cross-store wallet, so first-time buyers type their details.

Tax, shipping and selling abroad

This is where the gap is widest. Webflow calculates sales tax and VAT automatically for the United States, Canada, the European Union and Australia only. For orders from anywhere else, its help centre says you calculate tax outside Webflow. Tax-exempt product classes are limited to the US and some EU countries. A Webflow store sells in one currency, the default set in its ecommerce settings, and a connected PayPal account has to use the same one.

Shopify handles tax in most countries it sells into, and with Shopify Payments or Adyen a store can present and charge local currencies per market, with optional price rounding so a converted $14.27 shows as $14.00. If you sell to more than one country, this section alone decides it.

The hybrid: Webflow pages, Shopify cart

Shopify's Buy Button sales channel is included on every Shopify plan and is built for non-Shopify sites. Drop a product or collection embed into a Webflow page and the customer buys through Shopify's checkout without leaving the page. It is the simplest version of the hybrid: Webflow for design freedom, Shopify for the commerce engine.

How the hybrid works
Webflow pagesdesign, CMS, content

Buy Button embedproduct or collection, any plan

Shopify checkoutShop Pay, wallets, tax

Shopify adminorders, inventory, payouts
The deeper version syncs the catalogue into Webflow's CMS through the Storefront API or a connector app. Two subscriptions, plus someone to keep the sync honest.

The fuller version uses Shopify's Storefront API or a connector app to render products natively in Webflow's CMS and keep inventory in sync. It works, and it costs two subscriptions plus developer time to keep the sync honest. Do it when the brand's pages are a competitive weapon and the catalogue is small enough that the sync stays simple.

SEO and AI readiness

Both publish server-rendered HTML, so crawlers and AI assistants see your product text without running JavaScript. Both give you titles, meta, canonicals, redirects and sitemaps. Shopify adds Product structured data from its themes and feeds its catalogue to AI shopping channels through Shopify Catalog, which we cover in Shopify agentic storefronts. On Webflow you add Product schema through custom code and build any feed yourself. For a store that wants to appear when an assistant is asked "which X should I buy", Shopify starts ahead.

Who should pick which

The decision rule
What is the store short of?
Selling powervolume, several currencies, wallets, apps for subscriptions and returns

Shopify
Page designsmall catalogue, one country, one currency, content sells as much as products

Webflow
Both, with budgetbrand pages as a weapon, a developer who has wired the two before

Hybrid
Shopify is better at selling things. Webflow is better at making pages. Pick the one your business is short of.

Shopify, if you sell physical goods at volume, ship internationally, sell in more than one currency, rely on Shop Pay and express wallets, or need the app ecosystem for subscriptions, bundles, reviews and returns.

Webflow, if the brand is design-led, the catalogue is under a few hundred items, you sell in one country and one currency, your team already lives in Webflow for the marketing site, and the content around the products does as much selling as the product pages.

The hybrid, if you want Webflow's pages and Shopify's checkout and you can fund both plus the integration work.

Where ROAS Expert fits

We build and rebuild stores on Shopify and marketing sites on Webflow and Framer, and we can wire the two together. Our web development work starts with this decision and ends with a store that converts and is readable by AI shopping assistants. If you are not sure the platform is the problem, a conversion audit will tell you before you migrate anything, and pricing is on the site.

Not sure the platform is the problem?

A conversion audit checks speed, product pages, checkout and AI readability on your current store before anyone talks about migrating. From $1,000.

Questions

Is Webflow or Shopify better for ecommerce?

Shopify for most stores: it handles checkout, payments, tax and multi-currency with little setup and its checkout is tuned for conversion. Webflow suits small, design-led catalogues sold in one currency, where the pages matter as much as the products.

Does Webflow charge transaction fees?

Yes on the Standard ecommerce plan: 2% of the order total, on top of Stripe or PayPal processing. The Plus and Advanced plans charge 0%. Shopify charges no extra fee when you use Shopify Payments and 2% to 0.2% when you use another provider, depending on plan.

Can Webflow sell in multiple currencies?

No. A Webflow store sells in the default currency set in its ecommerce settings, and a connected PayPal account must use the same currency. Shopify can present and charge local currencies per market with Shopify Payments or Adyen.

Can I use Webflow for the website and Shopify for checkout?

Yes. Shopify's Buy Button channel is included on every plan and embeds products or collections in a non-Shopify site with Shopify's checkout. Deeper integrations sync the catalogue into Webflow's CMS through the Storefront API or a connector app.

How much do Webflow and Shopify cost in 2026?

Webflow Ecommerce is $29, $74 or $212 a month billed yearly. Shopify is $29, $79 or $299 a month billed yearly ($39, $105, $399 monthly), with Plus from $2,300. Card processing and transaction fees differ by plan and matter more than the subscription once sales pass roughly $10,000 a month.
